Sandra died aged just 15 whilst on her paper round. She was knocked down by a motor cyclist who lost control on Chatham Hill. She died the next day at the Brook Hospital, Dartford.

After my Dad died recently (April 2011), I discovered that the motor cyclist of Castle Rd, Chatham was totally at fault. He had a bike far too powerful to control, had no license, tax disc, or insurance and had been drinking heavily the night before. Medway Hospital also made grave errors with her treatment. My Dad just let them both off. I will never forgive the motor cyclist, Medway or my Dad for their actions. I don't know what the police did, it was all kept secret from us by Dad. I never did get on with him much, I always knew something was seriously wrong, now I know why. He was also fundamentally lazy so we were forced to get paperounds as we didn't get pocket money. That's what got her killed.

Sandra wanted a career in child care, but never had the chance. She was a very happy sister to me and to her school friends. I miss the roller skating, playing draughts, trips to the Isle of Wight, and watching The Bionic Man and Starsky & Hutch with her (she fancied David Sole). She would have loved DVD technology today - to see her favourite episodes anytime rather than waiting years for the relevant repeats.

Sandra had several unusual pets that included frogs, lizards & slow worms. We have arraged our garden to attract the same partly in her memory. We now have hedgehogs, frogs and several species of birds that nest here - remembering her interests.

I run my own company now, have several vehicles and a large house, but would gladly swap it all in an instant to have Sandra back. My Mum, Linda (elder sister) and I still miss her very much, and look forward to meeting her again in a much more peaceful, simpler, and cleaner world as I don't go much on this one.... Peter

Rose

The Rose Beyond the Wall

Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by the morning dew,
Shedding it's sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing it's fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive--
The rose still grows beyond the wall,

Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.
